Please don't mention other videos you've made that the audience should check out, and then *not* put a link in the description! I go through the trouble of carefully combing through your MASSIVE description list of affiliates etc, only to find not only have I wasted my time, but now I need to screw around trying to find the right keywords to find the video you mentioned that I actually did want to watch (or potentially I just won't bother now cause I'm annoyed and don't want to spend more time trying to find your content that you recommended but didn't link to!)

So what's it's temps and fan noise compared to say the hyper 212+ and other budget CPU cooler options? Surely that should make an appearance in this video considering it's a 'new' budget cooler on the market so it would be helpful to see where it lies in the grand scheme of budget coolers!

  • Raou Vantica

Linus - you think a Noctua cooler for a round 70 bucks is not cheap? Well - kiddo :) you never had the chance to buy a Zalmann cooler XD these puppies cost me here in germany a round 120 bucks :) and the only alternativ at that time was a ThermalTake cooler that had the noise level of a starting Jet enging XD and you needed addisionaly to buy thermal paste (because there was no thermalpaste on the coller - neither it was delivered with it). A flask of Zalmanns ZM-STG1 (paste for around 4 to 5 cpu die´s) costed aditionaly around 20 bucks.

  • Time Traveler

they just cut down the amount of valuable metal and try to design it to make up as much effeciency as possible to save money. if they do it like that they expect a new standard flagship for budget. - they really need to lower the prices though. you cant charge those kinda prices if it doesnt let you do more than a low-mid overclock...... there are cheaper options.

I have an old Hyper 212 Evo cooling a R5 2600 on 4,1Ghz without any problem. My next cooler will be the Arctic Freezer 34 (hopefully eSport version). Their P12 design is closer to noctua than any other design regarding performance. I have some other Arctic product and they are performing well. You should check that brand too even if its not in the main scope of the industry or buyers.

Linus calls a $50 CPU cooler affordable... Scythe has this thing beat. You can either buy the Mugen 5 or the Ninja 5 with it's two CPU fans. Both models come with the isolating rubber pieces for the fans preinstalled and if I recall correct they both featured soldered pipes to the base of the heatsink... This is a fail.

The vibration dampening bumpers are to stop the vibrations generated by the fan spinning from transfering into your rig.

  • Patavius

In my opinion, they could have gotten away with including just the additional fan clip. I don't need all the other stuff in the upgrade bundle but I'm very likely to buy an additional fan, most likely a matching Noctua.

Linus YOU are full of shit. And no matter what you say as you only stick to certain brands Like Noctua for coolers. Nvidia for video cards 3080 anyone? Groan. and Intel for CPUS. Test a Scythe against the way way over priced Noctua POS. Test intel Against AMD. And Nvidia against AMD. but you never do because AMD and Scythe will wipe the floor with the competition

If you want a bang for the bucks cooler, te Vetroo V5 is it. I got one for $24.99 directly from Vetroo and it is keeping my new Ryzen 9 5900x between 35c and 74c while boosting to 5050mhz with EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra... in a Lancool II Mesh case with only the 3 stock fans ... you should really try testing one... definitely the best budget air cooler out there.

  • justinoff1

  • Googlar

I assumed that Noctua products didn't offer the best value, but after I did a lot of research, I just couldn't find any cheaper options which offered the same level of reliability, and Noctua fans also offer excellent cooling and noise performance. They're even more energy efficient, typically using about half the power of other fans, which can be very useful if you want to connect multiple fans to a single fan header. The reliability in particular is extremely impressive, and also what makes Noctua fans actually provide very good value over the long run. When I moved to using an AM4 motherboard, my Noctua CPU cooler was no longer compatible, but all I had to do was fill out a simple form online, and they sent me an AM4 CPU mounting kit, (from Europe all the way to North America), and didn't even charge any shipping. Just the fact that they have these upgrade kits at all is amazing. Most companies wouldn't dream of doing this, because they want to force you to upgrade rather than keep things running for as long as possible.

It's $75 in my country, where wages are far lower than in the US/Canada. Sure, I can afford it, but I can almost buy an i3 9100f for the price of this cooler. You can find 12cm tower air coolers for less than half the price of this Noctua. The Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 I have on my 1600AF does a fantastic job for the $28 I spent on it.

  • Shin

MFW the Scythe Fuma 2 is only $10 more than this and the Arctic Freezer 34 is the same price with 2 fans and more color options
